The annual event is now in its 5th year. Saunders expressed excitement with the event moving to a new location this year due to increased interest and demand. "Over the past five years, the response has been huge. We find with each passing year, more and more ladies are joining us. The decision was made to move the retreat this year to a larger location. We're thankful to be working with the Bluefield Elks Club to host our Retreat at their facility in Bluefield."

Our outreach event is a great day of self-reflection and awareness and is filled with experiences to foster relaxation and healthful living. The ladies will learn more about achieving a healthier, better version of themselves.

Each year, the Retreat offers activities centered around the mind, body, and spirit and provides local businesses the opportunity to grow their client base. "WISE feels it’s vital to our area to support local businesses and we love that we can sometimes serve as a bridge between small businesses and members of our community. Hopefully, our retreat will provide them with an opportunity to expand their reach and their client base."

The Retreat encourages local women to take time to celebrate being a woman, pamper themselves, and enjoy the day. "All too often, women are so busy taking care of everyone around them they don't make time to care for themselves," Saunders remarked. "We want to empower them to say yes to doing something just for them. Whether it's exploring ways to reduce stress, learning about self-care or a healthier diet, or simply listening to some wonderful music while lying on the grass and counting clouds. To reach your goals and dreams, you have to be healthy and aware of yourself! That is what our event is about!"

Guest speakers will present information on a wide range of topics including journaling, stress management, healthy food choices and more. Meditation techniques and dancing activities are planned, as well as pampering stations, free health screenings, and a healthy lunch.

Saunders shared, “We’ve partnered with the best in the area to have top-notch information available on the day.” Saunders also stated that they are encouraging local businesses to send their staff for a day of pampering and appreciation. "We would love to welcome your staff for the day."

The event will offer registration for 75 attendees. The cost to register is $10. "We are here to serve women - it’s what we do! We strive to keep the cost low for events like this. We don't want someone to not come because of a financial barrier. We do have sponsorships available to cover the registration fee." Saunders noted. "We are fortunate to work with the Community Foundation of the Virginia’s. Their generosity provides us with grant funding that allows us to hold our event and offer sponsorships to some attendees. We are also thankful for the support of the United Way of Southern West Virginia. If someone wants to come, we want to remove the obstacles they face.”

Registration is currently open. Any women in the area that would like to attend should contact the WISE office at 304-324-5809 for more information. Registrations are also being accepted on the WISE Women's Resource Center website at www.wisewomenscenter.org or from their Facebook page @WISEWomenBluefield. Local businesses that would like to be involved as vendors for the event or to sponsor corporate attendance should contact WISE Board Member Robin Hall at 304-952-8214 for more information.

All women are encouraged to connect with WISE - whether they are a donor, supporter, or would like to come shop or receive services. “We would love for all women, regardless of their circumstances, to join us for our Wellness Retreat, but also to visit the WISE Women’s Resource Center for clothing needs or support services. We exist to empower women and to support them in all walks of life. Whether they are looking for clothing for an interview or to go to work or if they need a referral to another agency. We are here for them and we want them to think of us as a resource they can trust in our area." added Saunders.

WISE Women’s Resource Center was established by the West Virginia Community Services for Women, Inc. and is a 501c3 organization that exists to empower women in our community by providing them with support services and clothing, and helps to put them into contact with local, state, and private organizations for needed service referrals regardless of their background or financial need.
